It called to me,
that stoic Joshua Tree.
It said, “Forget life’s debris
Don’t drink all the chablis,
but stay carefree —
and always remember to curtsy.”
A coyote howled in the distance,
“Life is found in its persistence —
there is no freedom without resistance.
Watch out for reminiscence,
and focus on your magnificence.”
The sun smiled so warm,
“The past is outworn —
today, you are reborn.
Cease to be forlorn —
now is the time to transform.”
Then the rocks began to sing,
“You are not extinct,
life may have passed when you blinked
but it is time to rely on instinct —
it won’t be succinct
but eventually, you will be distinct.”
It was as if the desert cried out —
“Erase all the doubt;
every life must encounter drought.
Yet, in time, you will find a new sprout.
So, figure out the new route —
after all, that’s why you are on a walkabout.”
To find the lessons of nature,
you must encounter danger.
Face yourself like a stranger —
accept the wager
and forget the haters.
